Ever wanted to have your own Facebook profile URL like facebook.com/username similar to Twitter? Now you can — once Facebook’s vanity URL feature goes live on 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13. Here is how it works: on this paricular date, you’ll be able to choose a username on a first-come, first-serve basis for your profile and the Facebook Pages that you administer by visiting www.facebook.com/username/ Here is what Facebook says about for choosing your own profile’s vanity URL:
Facebook usernames will be available in basic text forms, and you can only choose a single username for your profile and for each of the Pages that you administer. Your username must be at least five characters in length and only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (“.”)
Facebook has been experimenting with this new feature for quite a while for some profiles like Mashable and having this feature adds a great sense of identity to your Facebook profile and much more like a homepage like Twitter. This is gonna be a first-come-first-serve basis so note this date on your calender, Plus, note that once your username has been selected, you won’t be able to change or transfer it.
