You might not have noticed this but YouTube has recently doubled the video pload size for all users from 1 GB to 2 GB. What does this mean then? It means you can now upload longer videos at a higher resolution as well as large HD files directly from your camera. Not a major feature for users. But if you are a YouTube power user, you might like it a lot.
YouTube is on roll lately with its new channel redesign — now it is introducing a new trailer section for its movie sections. This is another good source of trailers for lovers of movies who want to get a peek before-hand. However we can also see this as a direct take on against Apple and Yahoo who have their trailer sections. So far there are quite a few trailers and most of them are in HD mode which is a plus for trailer fans. You are gonna love it.
You heard it right — maybe you got tired of the old channel design, so YouTube is launching a channel redesign which has been in beta for quite a while for all users. Starting today, all new accounts will automatically have the new version of channels. And all existing channels will change over to the new design on July 15, so check this date if you want to be the first to see it happening. If you want to try it out before that date, here’s how: Just click on the “Upgrade my channel!” link on your Channel Design page. Meanwhile, you can keep track of the updates at their new dedicated blog. Like it or not — be sure to comment and tell us!!
Citizentube is a YouTube channel by YouTube that has been around for quite a while, which highlights the latest videos that people use to change the world that also encourages citizen journalism. Now, Citizentube is also using blogging as a platform to keep track of all that’s happening in quicker way. Here is what YouTube has to say about this:
These are the sorts of things you can stay on top of with Citizentube, a special YouTube blog devoted to chronicling the way that people are using video to change the world. If you’ve followed news and politics on YouTube, you might have noticed that we started Citizentube as a video channel on the site a few years back, but we soon realized that keeping track of all the phenomenal uses of YouTube by posting our own videos just wasn’t fast enough — so now we’re blogging, too. We generally focus on two types of posts: the compelling political and social uses of YouTube that we see the community bubble up every day, and our own programming initiatives and partnerships in the political, news, and nonprofit arenas.
Citizentube has been a great idea from YouTube on the use of videos to change the world and it pretty much sums up what world-issues is happening around the world. With the new update on blogging, Citizentube is taking a step forward on keeping us informed on the latest update through a neat little filter on what’s important

You have gotta check this out — YouTube XL has just been launched and we have to say — it looks pretty impressive. Let’s just say YouTube XL is like a sleek DVD player and with its really big screen, we also have to say XL means “Xtra-Large”. Browsing though the latest videos is simple — the videos have been slotted neatly into categories liked “Top Rated” and “Most Viewed” so just click on any interesting video to start watching that video. And try zooming in for videos with HD quality for a greater “TV-feel”, plus, you might need some popcorn in hand when watching videos on YouTube XL. 😉
Youtube has always been one of the biggest video sharing and streaming site but the interactions among its users has always been quite limited but YouTube RealTime might be what users need. YouTube RealTime is a new add-on to YouTube in the form of a toolbar that notifies you on what your friends are doing on YouTube that was launched just 3 days ago. This include new features like letting you see who is currently online as well as what they are doing plus invite them to watch a video that you are currently watching, all in real-time, hence allowing for great interaction among YouTube users. Here is what YouTube has to say about this:
YouTube RealTime is a new way to interact with your friends on the site. You can:
- See a list of friends currently online and what they are watching
- See a history of friends’ recent activities
- Receive real-time notifications when friends perform an activity on the site (such as comment, favorite, etc.)
Currently, YouTube RealTime is still in an invitation-only beta stage and we have been trying hard to get an invite but have not done so successfully, so if you have an invite, please copy the link from YouTube Peeps and comment it here so that we can get an invite and give YouTube RealTime a try. If you want to get an invite, you might want to try going on Twitter Search for the invite link and click the most recent link that to see if it works. Other than that, YouTube RealTime seems like a great idea and we would love to try it out as soon as possible. Check out TechCrunch’s article on YouTube RealTime for a more in-depth review about it if you are interested.
